Micah 5:2 – But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
The second chapter of Luke begins the Christmas story by stating that a decree had gone out from Caesar causing Mary and Joseph to make a trip to Bethlehem. This was not the most convenient time for travel as Mary was near the end of her pregnancy. They did what was required and after arriving in Bethlehem Mary gave birth to the Messiah fulfilling the prophecy of Micah 5:2. It not clear if Mary and Joseph were even aware of this prophecy. At the time I think they were only concerned with what they had to do to obey the decree. It was through this inconvenience that Mary and Joseph lived out what God had said would happen concerning the birth of Jesus.
We all face inconveniences in life.
Things will not always go the way you like.
We all have responsibilities.
We all have difficult days, when things do not go our way.
We all have times that we must do things that are inconvenient.
We all have times that we have to adjust our lives because of something that we have no control over.
- Loss of a job
- Being in the hospital
- Having a loved one in the hospital
- Loss of a loved one
There are many things that happen in our lives that we can not control. As believers we should be encouraged to know that even when things are not going as we would like, God is in control. God is aware. God is at work.
I would like to tell you that you will always know the why of what God is doing but the truth is sometimes we do not know. It was because of an inconvenience in their lives that Mary and Joseph were in the right place at the right time when Christ was born to fulfill the prophecy concerning His birth. They may never have realized the significance of that trip or the decree that had been made. It may have been nothing more for them than a series of inconveniences.
You may not know why things are the way they are in your life today. It may be your responding to things that are out of your control. Regardless of the situation, TRUST HIM. He is in control.
